Itinerary
Day 1 |
We depart from Henley and journey north to Kendal 'Gateway to the Lakes' for lunch then onto your hotel in Keswick, time to relax before dinner. |
Day 2 |
This morning, we visit Grasmere, famous for its gingerbread and of course it was once the home of the famous poet William Wordsworth. On the outskirts of the village, we step back in time as we visit the Wordsworth Museum & Dove Cottage. Now re-opened after a multi-million-pound restoration project we get a feel for daily life as the Wordsworth's would have known and experience a humble home where extraordinary writing and thinking took place. We continue to Bowness where we enjoy a scenic sightseeing cruise on stunning Lake Windermere. |
Day 3 |
A morning excursion to Cockermouth, birthplace of William Wordsworth. The thriving town boasts medieval and Georgian streets with small independent shops and a wide selection of interesting antique and gift shops, cafes and pubs. We return to Keswick for free time in the afternoon. |
Day 4 |
This morning, we experience the comfortable services of Mountain Goat. A fleet of mini coaches takes us first to Coniston Water where we visit the Ruskin Museum where we will be able to view Donald Campbell's 'Bluebird'. From here we enjoy a cruise on Coniston Water on-board the steam yacht Gondola. We continue to Hilltop (NT). This 17th century farmhouse was where Beatrix Potter wrote many of her children's stories. Our return is via Tarn Hows. |
Day 5 |
Departing Keswick we commence our journey home. |
