Itinerary
Monday |
We travel to the northeast, arriving late afternoon at the Best Western Derwent Manor for our 4-nights stay. |
Tuesday |
Today's excursion takes us south through the Pennines to Stanhope for a short break, then west to Alston for lunch and a ride on the South Tynedale Railway. We continue to Hexham to visit its historic Abbey before returning to the hotel. |
Wednesday |
We begin in Morpeth on Market Day, with time to explore before crossing the scenic Northumbrian countryside to Bellingham and Kielder Water. Here we visit the visitor centre and the Kielder Birds of Prey Centre, home to one of the largest collections in the North of England. |
Thursday |
We visit the historic City of Durham, a World Heritage Site dominated by its Norman Cathedral and Castle. After time to explore, we continue to Barnard Castle and the Bowes Museum, housed in a majestic French-style chateau with a superb collection including the famous Silver Swan. |
Friday |
Homeward bound. |
