Itinerary
Wednesday |
We drive to Dover for the short Channel crossing to Calais. Upon arrival, we continue to the Mercure Saarbrücken Süd for dinner and our overnight stay. |
Thursday |
Continue into Austria arriving in Mayrhofen for our 5-night stay. |
Friday |
We start today with a scenic journey from Mayrhofen to the Tyrolean Farm Museum, where 37 reconstructed historic wooden buildings recreate Tyrolean life in pre-industrial times. After time in delightful Rattenberg, famous for its glassware, for lunch and shopping, we ride a train along the nostalgic, narrow-gauge Zillertal Railway this afternoon: travelling through glorious scenery from Fügen to Mayrhofen before returning to our hotel. |
Saturday |
Full day to Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol where we have free time to see the main sights including the historic old town with its legendary Golden Roof, the Hofburg, former imperial residence of the ruling Habsburgs. |
Sunday |
This morning we embark on the Achenseebahn, Europe's oldest cog railway, which is still steam operated. Puffing through the steeper sections, it rises to a 16% gradient from Jenbach to Seespitz. From here we re-join our coach for the short journey to the resort town of Pertisau. We enjoy time at leisure before relaxing on a one-way cruise from Pertisau to the northern shores of lovely Lake Achensee. |
Monday |
A free day to relax in gorgeous Mayrhofen. |
Tuesday |
Depart Austria, travel into Germany for dinner and our overnight stay at the Mercure Saarbrücken Süd. |
Last Day |
Departing Saarbrücken, we return to Calais for our sailing to Dover, returning to Henley during the evening. |
